Resuscitation & Recycling
Although I normally make new fitted furniture and carry out general carpentry I do occasionaly find a nice piece of furniture that I feel the urge to repair and recycle. I don`t restore furniture but do repair and make good.
Apart from the obvious need to preserve materials and energy for the sake of us all there is also the experience of seeing another makers work up close, working out how it was made and how to fix it to bring it back to life.

Oak Cabinet
I bought this oak alcove, TV, hifi, media cabinet because it is solid oak (the king of timber) and looked like it had been in a flood with the bottom of the legs naked of their finish and grey.
There was a large ring of damage on the top and it was generally covered in dints and scratches.
The door poorly fitted because the hinges were very worn and the door was a different shape to the door frame. the door catch was also missing and the door would`nt close. I took it apart to sand and finish the whole thing, I replaced the smaller worn hinges with these lovely chunky ball bearing stainless steel hinges and then adjusted the door to fit and then I fitted a catch.
